Assessment Phases

Assessments

The first assessment (or "Phase") was undertaken when the study members were born (Phase 0). Since then, there have been assessments at ages 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 18, 21, 26, and 32 (Phases 3 to 32 respectively). The age 38 assessment phase is taking place in 2010/2012 (commences 1 June 2010). For earlier phases, assessments normally occurred within six weeks of the Study member’s birthday. For the most recent phases, assessments occurred within 9 months of the Study member’s birthday.

The 1037 children assessed at age 3 comprise the base sample for the Dunedin Study (that is, only those Study Members were eligible to be assessed at subsequent phases). However, perinatal, demographic and anthropometric information was collected at birth for 1661 children.

The table below shows the number of Study Members who participated at each assessment. Please click on a number in the Phase column to view the data collected and Principal Investigators involved at that assessment.
