Our Location

Dunedin is the principal seaport in the lower half of New Zealand's South Island. It has a population of 120,000, making it New Zealand's eighth largest city. Most (87%) of Dunedin's inhabitants are of European descent, and 6.4% identify themselves as Mäori, New Zealand's indigenous population (NZ Census, 2006). Dunedin contains the world's southernmost university, the University of Otago within which the DMHDRU is located.

 Our Location

The Research Unit is located in the Barningham Building, behind the Dental School, off Great King Street.

When in Dunedin, the Research Unit can be found just north of the city centre, about 5 minutes walk from Dunedin Hospital and 10 minutes walk from the University of Otago's clock tower. The instructions below detail how to find the Unit depending on whether you are travelling by foot or by car.

By foot

Go to Knox Pharmacy on the corner of George and Frederick Streets. Continue north along George St to the lane between the Indian restaurant and "Joseph Jones Floral Design" store. Go through the cyclone netting gate at the end of the lane. The two-storeyed grey building on your right is the Research Unit (Barningham Building).

By car

Go to the corner of Frederick and Great King Streets. Continue north along Great King St to the driveway just past the Dental School. Turn left into this driveway and drive through the carpark, continuing past the back of the Dental School. On your left you will see an entranceway to a two-storeyed grey building (there is a sign with our logo attached to the brick wall on the left of this entranceway). This building is the Barningham Building, the home of the Research Unit. The carpark is located in the courtyard in front of this building.

BE WARNED - there are often very few parks available in the carpark. There is a sign with our logo above the main entrance. The main office is located upstairs.
